Gorilla Repeatedly Kisses Newborn Infant Seconds After Giving Birth For The First Time As They Bond On Camera (VIDEO)

Gorilla repeatedly kisses newborn infant seconds after giving birth for the first time as they bond on camera.

Gorilla Calaya was filmed staring at her firstborn son and repeatedly kissing him on the lips at the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in Washington DC.

The incredible bond between a first-time mum and her newborn infant just seconds after birth has been captured on camera.

Gorilla Calaya was filmed staring at her firstborn son and repeatedly kissing him on the lips as she cradled him.

The caring mum then pulled the boy onto her chest, while she kissed its ear and was then seen laying her precious offspring on to to a bed of hay and inspected him all over.

The heart melting footage was captured on Sunday at the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute in Washington DC.

Calaya is 15 and her baby was named Moke , which means junior or little one in Lingalan – the native language of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

A spokesman for the zoo said: “For the first time in nine years, primate staff at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute are celebrating the birth of a male western lowland gorilla.

“Animal care staff have observed Calaya nursing the infant who has been clinging closely to his mother, and they are cautiously optimistic that the newborn will thrive.

“Animal care staff are leaving Calaya to bond with and care for her baby without interference. The Great Ape House is closed to provide Calaya a quiet space to bond with her infant.”

Meredith Bastian, the zoo’s curator of primates said: “The birth of this western lowland gorilla is very special and significant, not only to our Zoo family but also to this critically endangered species as a whole.

“The primate team’s goal was to set Calaya up for success as best we could, given that she is a first-time mother.

“Doing so required great patience and dedication on the part of my team, and I am very proud of them and Calaya.”
